ART What do you think art is? In my opinion art is something that you put together to tell you something or something or something that you creat. You know what it can even be made out of RUBBISH ! Out of books, films. I don't think it's just about drawing and painting. So that's what I think art is. (It's the stuff from my book)

Does art have to make sense? No it does not have to make sense. Art can be very confusing at first but when you look at it more closely you can understand it. For instance Picasso's art was very unusual. Take a look at Picasso's work I drew myself. So remember art can be from anybody and everybody so it does not need to make sense.

Why is art important? Does it mean anything? Yes it does! It can mean stuff to other countries. Art can anything. It can be carved, drawed, takin by a photo and a phew other stuff that I can't think of. As long as it is what you think it can be anything!

What is art?

What do you think art is?  I think art is telling us all a story, don’t you think?

I think art tells us different things about different cultures. For example a New Zealand piece of art could be a painting of a koru. Art from Australia could be a dot painting.

In my opinion art is not all about staying still. Art could be a play with lots of people moving around. Or it could be a dance.

Art could also be about scribbles and dots and all kinds of colours. Like in a book called Dot. A boy thinks he can’t draw but he draws a dot and then it ends up in an art gallery.

Art can tell lots of stories in lots of ways. What story would you tell?

We are learning to skip count in 2's

Today Asher and Lucas had made a snail out of the counting beans. I wandered over with the question "What maths learning goal are you working on here?" They were able to tell me they were practicing skip counting in twos, they were counting in 2's using the blue beans. Love creative learning opportunities like this that happen in LC2. Nice one Asher and Lucas!!!

Who knew pasta making could be so much fun!!!

Moments of wonder in LC2

Often as a teacher you look up from the madness and see moments of wonder. This photo captures one of those moments in LC2. Connor is working on writing, Leila is working on a reading activity and Gordon is working on Studyladder. This captures a moment that reflects what we're all about and how learning works in Learning Common 2. Happy teacher and learner moment :)

Beach Education Day at Mairangi Day

We had a beautiful day today at Mairangi Bay for our Beach Education trip. We learnt about the 5 safety rules when you are at the beach.

  1. Always swim between the flags
  2. Always make sure an adult is watching you
  3. Talk to the lifeguards
  4. Never swim or surf alone
  5. If in doubt, stay out.
We learnt about what to do if you are caught in a rip
  1. Stay calm
  2. Try to stand up
  3. Put your hand up
  4. Float on your back
It was a cool day.

Hot Cross Buns

What it's like in Lc2

In LC2 we have been working hard and we have new people in our class. We have 60 people in our class. Sometimes when people do target maths workshops we sit outside. Our whole common is changed. In our common it looks very different.

What Is Going On In Lc2 by Layla

Easy Blog Photo
So far LC2 is very busy, people are writing, doing maths and doing stuff like that. I've been doing crafts, drawing and blogging. So, basically, people have been really busy around here. Especially the teachers, they've been doing reading workshops, writing workshops and math workshops. I think all they want is a break. So that's what has been going on in LC2.

Digital Citizenship

Today we were lucky to have Amy pop in to talk to some of us about digital citizenship. We talked about how important it is for us to be careful about what information we give to people online. Check out the link on our Learning Common 2 site to find out more about what digital citizenship is all about.

The Frog And The Lizard Cave by Lewis

Not too long and not too far ago there lived a frog. He was just walking along when he spotted a cave. It was dark and frightening. He tried to mind his own business when a joke came from it. He tried not to laugh but laughs burst from him because it was such a good joke.

A bunch of other laughs came from the cave then a big boulder with a hole in it rolled in front of the cave. A lizards head popped up. It said "what's the password?" The frog said "lizards only?" It said "no." The frog said "lizards rock?" The lizard said "not even close." The frog sighed "I give up." The lizard said "ok I will tell you why didn't the skeleton cross the road? Because he didn't have the guts to! Ha ha ha hoo hoo hoo!"

The frog laughed so hard that he couldn't stop. Then the lizard said "you can come in." So he spent his day in the cave laughing. That made the lizards his friends. The end.

The Castle On The Hill by Luke

Once in a far away land there was a castle on a hill. This hill made joy to the village next to the castle. But the house closest to the castle had a preposterous man in it. This man tried to steel the crown jewels every day. Today he tried something different but as always he failed.

It was a sunny day in the village. The army was getting ready to take off. The villagers had no idea that the army was surprising the princess for her birthday she forgot all about her birthday. And she nearly forgot about the invitations for her friends. While she was asleep the villagers were getting ready to party. So when she woke up everyone acted like they forgot about it. She started to sigh then started to make the cards as she cried. When she got out of the castle she got suprised!!!!!!!!

They shouted happy birthday so you didn't forget as she opened the door. And they all settled down on the couch.
