Happy Birthday Andre, from your pirate friends

Student Led Workshops

At my workshop I taught hockey.  It was a great success because every one was listening and following my instructions.  It was very good and every time we finished a skill I came back and looked at my plan.  It was great.

The Art of Negotiation

Today we had a group of students negotiating their planning. We discussed the idea of making choices around what we need to learn and what we want to learn. We thought about workshops we have been involved in and follow on learning we could do from those. We negotiated with friends if there was a task we needed to collaborate on.

Our Learning Foci This Week

Numeracy
This week we have been posing problems to encourage multiplicative thinking. Some of us have been using materials to make groups, some of us have been drawing pictures and some of us are learning to use our known multiplication facts. All of us are using the language "groups of", with the understanding that 5 x 2 means 5 groups of 2.

This is an example of the type of problems we have been solving.

Geometry
We have been exploring the geometric concepts of reflection, rotation, translation and tessellation.

Writing
Our target writing workshops have been based around learning more about sentences. Some of us have been consolidating our understanding of what a simple sentence is. We have been focusing on the concept of a sentence being one idea. We have also been remembering to start our sentences with a capital letter and end with a full stop ( although we know sometimes a sentence can also end with a question or exclamation mark or an ellipsis...).
The rest of us have been learning how to extend our sentences and write compound sentences using conjunctions.

We have had a lot of fun learning about homophones. Homophones are words which sound the same but have different meanings and are spelt differently. For example dear/dare and deer. Some of us have really got into this and have created some very long lists!!

Art

This week we have been doing Art.  For Art we made a background.  When you have finished the shapes, you colour it in.  You have to press hard to see no white bits.  When I did it, it was tricky but I tried my best.  When you are finished you draw half of your face. Then you glue it onto your background.

I'm Proud!

I'm proud of myself because I have been on task and finishing my jobs on my plan and I'm happy!  The highlighted words are the jobs I have done.

Taking Opportunities

"I like solving problems because I like thinking of different ways to solve them. I usually use addition and sometimes doubles." Priya.

Priya, I really enjoyed watching you solve the maths problem today. You felt confident enough to support other class members, offering ideas and sharing strategies with them.

Lots of different learning opportunities

Lots of learning on offer today; project research, learning about sentences, spelling, homophones, problem solving, geometric art, learning about reflection, translation and rotation.

Some more photos of our learning this week....

Week 3 Update

Wow, we can't believe how fast this week has flown by. This week we have formed into project groups for our PBL. These have been loosely grouped around pollution and recycling, amazing cultures, significant places and endangered animals, languages and people. We have begun initial conferences with students to see what direction these may head into and we have students working on independent, supported and teacher led projects.

Phoenix's Blog
I really love LC2 because I love to learn and it is lots of fun, especially art. Being outside is the best. My favourite thing to do outside is handball.

Issy and Sari's Blog
We love kapahaka because it is fun. Our friends are doing it together. Our friends in kapahaka are Lucy, Maddy and Karlee. Our friends are lovely.

Layla's Blog
You must see LC2, it's amazing, it's dazzling, it's stupendous. Lots of events happen here like; pyjama days, movie days and costume days. We even don't have to wear uniforms. Even though we may seem busy we always get things done. Some of us don't make good choices, but even they get jobs done.

Christella's Blog
This week we have been learning about hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics are from the Egyptian Countries. They are not letters, they are pictures. We had to write down our names. We also had to make it look old. They are fun to make!
