Alice In Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland

Yesterday HPPS went to HPSS to watch Alice in Wonderland.  I know that we could just watch it from our TV but this was actually a show from the students.   Alice was sooooooooooooooo good at acting.  The Queen of Hearts was a little mean but I liked her too.  The Mad Hatter was sooooooooooooooo crazy, just like me.  I liked it because it was fun and the people were good at acting.

Our awesome day :)

We had an awesome day today in LC2, we were lucky to have our Japanese friends join us for student led workshops and also Freya's Opa. The workshops on offer today were I Can Animate, making christmas decorations and paper snowflakes, lava lamps, drawing people and floorplans, playing tennis and tap and gap and making a gingerbread house. We were super proud of our children and the way they communicated instructions and initiated conversations with our Japanese friends. It made us think about how we communicate effectively to people who english isn't a first language for. Ka mau te wehi!!!

Issy's writing inspired by the Google Expedition

One hot, sunny day there were two science girls that wanted to go snorkelling.

So they went snorkelling. They asked their uncle if they could use his boat and shark cage and stuff like that.

They put their togs on and dived into the shark cage. A few seconds later they saw a BIG!!! shark. They were really cool and AMAZING!!!

Google Expedition
On the 17 of November 2015 there was a box and in that box there was a
phone that teleports you on the spot.

First I went to a city full of big buildings and someone was sitting down next to you. I felt scared looking down.

Then we went to the moon. It was covered in rocks and in the distance you could just make out a moon buggy. The buggy was a creamy
colour with leather seats.
Finally we went to the Buckingham Palace. It was full of antique stuff.
My favourite place was the Taj Mahal because it had lots of detail on the walls.

At the end I felt AMAZING because I got to see all the places I’ve never seen before.

Student led workshops were awesome today

What a great range of student led workshops on offer today, we had creating weather art, drawing pineapples, origami, Scratch Junior, making poi, how to play chess, tennis and touch rugby. It was great to be able to share our skills with students from LC1.

Google Expedition

Yesterday LC2 went to LC5 to do some Google Expedition which was really cool!!!

We went to a graveyard, a soccer field, forest, cave, moon, space and more!!! We saw a gigantic beetle, a python and a bat. Michael was a great teacher.

P.S I want to go again!

The goggles that we were using looked a bit weird but they were awesome!!! They used a cellphone and some card board to make the goggles, cool huh?!?!?!?!

My favourite place was the cave because there was a weird  looking old man smiling there.

I liked Google Expediton because it was fun and interesting.

The Piglet in Bat Mode, by Lewis

Not too long ago there lived a piglet. She was not impressed by the sun and its light. So she stole a cabin, went inside, got a bat costume, put it on and waited for the moon to rise.

The Nature Pirates

Hi we are the nature pirates from LC2, and we have been building a forest of nature. It all started when Lucy found a seed while we were eating lunch. Louise said "thats a kowhai seed, lets plant it." So then we found a whole lot of kowhai seeds and we planted them in pots so hopefully they will grow into Kowhai trees. Then we started finding little creatures living in some of the pots of dirt. We also found some old pea plant that had pea seeds in them so we planted them so they could grow. Andre found two peas that had already sprouted!!!! So we planted them too. We put some nice new soil in the pots and replanted some of the flowers that were looking a bit old. We also took some weeds out and did some watering.

Hopefully butterflies and bees will come and visit our garden. It would be cool to get some other plants we could plant. We even talked about making a worm farm aka known as Hungry Bin to put our food scraps in.

Student Led Workshops

Student Led Workshops are when kids not teachers run workshops. Other kids go to workshops to learn what others bring in to LC2. They teach us things they know. That is workshops. If you ran a workshop what would you do? by Caitlyn

Happy Birthday Andre, from your pirate friends

Student Led Workshops

At my workshop I taught hockey.  It was a great success because every one was listening and following my instructions.  It was very good and every time we finished a skill I came back and looked at my plan.  It was great.

The Art of Negotiation

Today we had a group of students negotiating their planning. We discussed the idea of making choices around what we need to learn and what we want to learn. We thought about workshops we have been involved in and follow on learning we could do from those. We negotiated with friends if there was a task we needed to collaborate on.
